Department of Physics
Introduction
The Department of Physics was established in Government Post Graduate College, D. I. Khan under the University of Peshawar in 1968 and was transferred to Gomal University in 1974 immediately after its establishment. Efforts have been made ever since to provide conducive environment for academic activities. The teaching staff is busy with full enthusiasm to improve the quality of teaching and research in order to foster the perception level of our students. The department started M. Phil Program in 1983 and Ph.D. Program in 1990. B. S. (4-years) program was started in 2011. The research facilities are accessible to the students in different fields of specialization such as Particle
Physics, High Energy Physics, Plasma Physics, Radiation Physics, Computational Physics, Material Science & and Nuclear Physics, Department has received research grant from national/ international organizations including ICTP, GTZ, CONACyT(Mexico) and HEC.
Mission
• To provide an outstanding national educational experience to our students for developing human resource as an effective future leadership in the field of Science and Technology and academia.
• To perform frontier research in pure and applied Physics and related areas of technological importance.
• To provide the institutional knowledge base in Physics and to disseminate the current knowledge through interaction with other research and academic institutions.
• To provide quality education to the young student community at large for raising the standard of existing scientific world in achieving the goals of technologically
developed nation.
Vision
The department is struggling hard to meet the growing demand of higher education of the nation with the dire need of a helping hand to develop basic infrastructure and academic facilities for carrying out its efforts to the cause of creating national human resource for promotion of science and technology. The graduates of the department are working on responsible positions in various academic institutions, Survey of Pakistan, Metrological office, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, KRL, NESCOM and SUPARCO, and other national and international organization.
