Introduction
The Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) at Gomal University is a two‑year, four‑semester diploma designed to train students in modern animal husbandry and livestock management techniques, with a particular focus on rural livelihoods. Administered through the Department of Veterinary Sciences (under the Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences), the program aims to increase livestock productivity, enhance income for rural families, and reduce poverty at the village level.
Key learning outcomes include:
- Assisting veterinarians in field, clinic, and dispensary settings.
- Performing seasonal vaccinations and deworming to prevent common diseases.
- Conducting artificial insemination and advising on reproductive health improvements.
- Collecting and preparing blood, milk, and fecal samples for laboratory diagnosis.
- Educating farmers on livestock breeding, nutrition, disease control, management, and marketing.
- Organizing community extension events like farmer days and melas.
Career prospects: Graduates can pursue roles as Para veterinary assistants, livestock supervisors, or extension workers in government livestock departments, veterinary hospitals, agro‑extension services, and non‑governmental organizations.
