Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD)

Introduction

The Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) at Gomal University is a two‑year, four‑semester diploma designed to train students in modern animal husbandry and livestock management techniques, with a particular focus on rural livelihoods. Administered through the Department of Veterinary Sciences (under the Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences), the program aims to increase livestock productivity, enhance income for rural families, and reduce poverty at the village level.

Key learning outcomes include:

  • Assisting veterinarians in field, clinic, and dispensary settings.
  • Performing seasonal vaccinations and deworming to prevent common diseases.
  • Conducting artificial insemination and advising on reproductive health improvements.
  • Collecting and preparing blood, milk, and fecal samples for laboratory diagnosis.
  • Educating farmers on livestock breeding, nutrition, disease control, management, and marketing.
  • Organizing community extension events like farmer days and melas.

Career prospects: Graduates can pursue roles as Para veterinary assistants, livestock supervisors, or extension workers in government livestock departments, veterinary hospitals, agro‑extension services, and non‑governmental organizations. They may also establish private clinics or livestock enterprises and pursue opportunities both domestically and in Middle Eastern markets.
