Institute of Microbiology
Master of Philosophy in Microbiology
Introduction
Gomal University offers a 2-year M.Phil. in Microbiology under its Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences within the broader Biological Sciences discipline. Eligibility requires 16 years of education in a relevant field with at least a second division (or CGPA ≥ 2.5/4.0); applicants must also achieve a minimum of 60% in the GAT‑General or the GU.
The program combines advanced coursework in research methodology with a supervised thesis project, allowing students to explore specialties such as medical, environmental, industrial, food, and molecular microbiology. Students develop strong analytical, critical thinking and scientific writing skills as they engage in thesis research under faculty mentorship.
Admissions are competitive and based on a written entry test, administered by GU and supervised to ensure transparency; typically about 1,300 candidates apply across all M.Phil programs in a given cycle. Upon successful completion of coursework and a thesis defense, graduates are well prepared for careers in clinical diagnostics, biotechnology, research laboratories, public health agencies, or progression to Ph.D. studies.
