Introduction

The M.Phil. (Education) program at the Institute of Education & Research (IER), Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, is a rigorous two-year research-based postgraduate degree designed to develop advanced knowledge, critical inquiry, and leadership in the field of education. Tailored for individuals aspiring to pursue academic, research, and policy-oriented careers, the program emphasizes both theoretical depth and practical application in educational contexts.

Structured over four semesters, the M.Phil. (Education) program combines core and elective coursework with intensive research training, culminating in the submission of a thesis. Key areas of study include advanced educational psychology, curriculum theory, educational leadership and management, qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and contemporary issues in education. The program fosters analytical thinking, research competence, and reflective practice essential for contributing to national and global educational discourse.

Since its inception in 2001–2002, IER has successfully produced over 190 M.Phil. graduates, many of whom are serving in universities, research institutions, teacher training colleges, and education departments across Pakistan. The program also serves as a solid foundation for those intending to pursue doctoral (Ph.D.) studies in education.

The M.Phil. (Education) is offered in both Morning and Weekend formats to facilitate full-time scholars as well as working professionals.

Program Features

Admission Requirement: Applicants must possess a background in education with at least one of the following qualifications: B.Ed. (Hons) 1.5-Years, B.Ed. (Hons) 4-Years, M.A. Education, M.Ed. (1-Year after B.Ed. 1-Year), B.Ed (Hons) 2.5-Years or an equivalent qualification in Education. A minimum second division in the annual/term system or a CGPA of 2.5 in the semester system is required. Admissions are competitive and based on merit, subject to departmental test, interview, and the criteria mentioned in the official advertisement.
