Introduction

The Ph.D. (Education) program at the Institute of Education & Research (IER), Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, is a highly advanced and research-intensive doctoral program aimed at preparing scholars, researchers, academic leaders, and policy experts in the field of education. This terminal degree fosters the highest level of scholarly inquiry, critical analysis, and original research, enabling candidates to address complex educational issues at national and international levels.

The program spans over three years and comprises 24 credit hours, including 6 credit hours of research work leading to the submission and defense of a doctoral dissertation. Students undergo rigorous coursework covering advanced research methodologies, philosophical and theoretical foundations of education, policy analysis, curriculum design, and contemporary educational challenges. A strong emphasis is placed on developing innovative research skills, ethical scholarship, and academic leadership.

The Ph.D. program is designed to contribute to the advancement of educational knowledge and practice in Pakistan. Graduates are expected to take leadership roles in universities, teacher education institutes, research organizations, public policy bodies, and international development agencies. The program also encourages publication of research in peer-reviewed journals and active participation in scholarly discourse.

Ph.D. (Education) at IER is offered in both Morning and Weekend formats, and admission is highly competitive based on merit, entry test, interview, and HEC guidelines.

Program Features

Admission Requirement: Candidates must have successfully completed M.Phil. (Education) or an equivalent 18-year qualification in Education with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 (out of 4.00) in the semester system. Applicants must also qualify the university’s Ph.D. entry test and interview process in accordance with HEC and university criteria as advertised.
