Department of Economics

Introduction

Department of Economics is existed in the Institute of Social Sciences, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan which is aimed at providing conducive learning environment to equip graduates and post graduates with advance knowledge, skills and professional capabilities to empower qualified manpower in the specialized disciplines of Economics for their contribution towards prosperous, peaceful and enlighten Pakistan economy. The Department of Economics was established from the very inception of Gomal University in 1974. Postgraduate Classes in Economics were used to be held in the Government Degree College, D.I.Khan. After changing three places in the D.I.Khan city, the Department moved in the new constructed Arts Block in March, 1983. The Department is also in the process of establishing an academic/ research link with the Department of Economics, University of Strathclyde. Glasgow, Britain and proper functioning of the link programmed is initiated with effect from October, 2003. This department offers BS 4 years, M.Phil and Ph.D programs as per revised Curriculum of HEC.

Mission

Economics Department is one the unique institution of its kind and a future-oriented highly professional academic Institution committed to achieving academic excellence at the levels of BS, M.Phil and Ph.D education and research. The highly professional and trained Faculty would contribute to the advancement of community in pursuit of socio-economic development. The Faculty will preserve and promote the nation’s economy and would be dedicated to the production of quality human resource for the knowledge-driven development and sustained technological revolution of the country.

Vision

  1. To prepare students and scholars at BS, M.Phil and Ph.D Levels to analyze economic problems objectively and systematically so as to come up with practical solutions.
  2. To stay in touch with passing out graduates and seek enforce work with useful academic and research guidance and on job trainings.
  3. To offer specialized courses that are taken by students at BS, MS/M.Phil and Ph.D levels making sure such courses as understandable, practical, useful and interesting as possible.
  4. To provide conducive research environment for research scholars at MS/M.Phil and Ph.D levels for promoting quality research culture in the department.
