Introduction of Department

The Department of Animal and Poultry Production (DAPP) has been recognized as one of the most prestigious part for Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, within the country and abroad. The department was established in 2017.

Chairperson's Message

The Department of Animal and Poultry Production (DAPP), FVAS, Gomal University is a prominent Unit of Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan. We offer undergraduate programs in Animal Sciences and Poultry Sciences and graduate programs in Animal Sciences. The Department is playing an important role in the country by producing competent Graduates, serving nationally and internationally in the various aspects of life. We are committed to advance the knowledge of relevant Agro-veterinary communities’ by sharing positive and proven scientific ideas. DAPP has well established Laboratories, Farms and a dedicated Research and Diagnostic Laboratory for students training in the field of Animal and Poultry Sciences. We have highly qualified and trained teaching staff.

Being a Head of the Department, it is my honor to warmly welcome eligible candidates into the portal of one of the eminent part of Gomal University and a great institution which is completely dedicated to the cause of top-quality veterinary education system. As an emerging program in Pakistan, I have to put my best to make DAPP carve a niche of respect among other universities, along with my team. That is why, our Programs attract a greater number undergraduate and postgraduate student each year. In this regard, we struggle to hire renowned and competent faculty for the academic and intellectual grooming of our students.

The students, in this respect, are given top priority because the progress of the university is tied up to the satisfaction of students. Students are given training through comprehensive lectures, problem-based learning, assignments, tests and tutorials, practical classes in the field, computer-simulated animal experiments and other experiments. The students receive academic, basic research, clinical research and industry-oriented training. The curriculum is reviewed regularly by the faculty after feedback from undergraduate and postgraduate students and teachers.

DAPP is well equipped with dairy farm, goat farm, poultry farm, demonstration rooms, dedicated postgraduate research and diagnostic lab, ten labs at faculty for undergraduate students (i.e. Pathology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Anatomy, Histology, Biochemistry, Dairy Technology, Theriogenology and Computer Science) and a veterinary teaching hospital.

Mission

The Institute is established to deliver excellent teaching and research environment to produce Scholars and graduates who distinguish themselves by their professional competence, research, entrepreneurship, humanistic outlook, ethical rectitude, pragmatic approach to problem solving, managerial skills and ability to respond to the challenge of socio-economic development to serve as the vanguard of techno-industrial transformation of the society.

Objective

Graduates of the DAPP, FVAS Gomal University will:

Demonstrate profound knowledge of the basics as well as relevant practical skills, with fundamental context and application in their relevant discipline.
Demonstrate the behaviors of scholarly graduates by developing and utilizing the process of critical thinking, and inquiry, focused on improvement of practice and delivery of health care.
Understand, correlate and apply theoretical knowledge, to the practice and management of Animal and Poultry Science.
Incorporate positive attitudes and behaviors to the community, and will be able to adopt the advancement in management and diagnostic approach.
