Faculty Veterinary and Animal Sciences

Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (FVAS) is one of largest Institute and got status of faculty in 2017 in Gomal University. Formerly it was Gomal College of Veterinary Sciences (GCVS), being the oldest and 1st Veterinary Institute in KPK & 4th in Pakistan. We really feels immense pleasure of producing more than 20 batches of DVM graduates. It is located at the boundaries of Punjab, KPK, Baluchistan and Ex-FATA with the aim to promote quality veterinary education in these neglected areas and we are proud to achieve this milestone. . It is playing an important role in the country by producing competent Veterinarians and Para vets, serving nationally and internationally in various aspects of life. We are committed to advance the knowledge of relevant Agro-veterinary communities’ by sharing positive and proven scientific ideas. We strives to attract faculty of outstanding talent and ability to provide the students a supporting and enabling environment.

The Highly qualified staff, equipped laboratories, |developed E-learning systems, Seminar Halls, developed Computer Labs, state of the art Gymnasiums, vast Play grounds, various extra and Co-curricular activities are our strength. Since its 1st inception, we have strived to provide high-quality education and facilities to our students under the guidelines suggested by the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council, HED and HEC. Since then, we have been dedicated to further enhancing our educational standards, practical demonstration and facilities to meet the modern requirements of veterinary education and recognition. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of Veterinary Education and contributing to advancing Veterinary Profession in Pakistan. The overall objective of these developments is to produce quality graduates having latest knowledge and scientific skills compatible to jobs and development at the national and international levels and to conduct research supported by international linkages for minimizing livestock losses and ensuring safe, healthy food of animal origin  for human consumption.

Objective:

The objective of a Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences typically revolves around education, research, and service in the field of veterinary medicine and animal sciences. Here are some specific objectives commonly associated with such faculties:

  1. Education and Training: To provide high-quality education and training programs for aspiring veterinarians, animal scientists, and other professionals in the field of veterinary medicine and animal sciences.
  2. Research: To conduct cutting-edge research in various areas related to veterinary medicine, animal health, animal nutrition, genetics, and related fields, with the aim of advancing knowledge, improving animal welfare, and addressing pressing issues in animal agriculture and veterinary practice.
  3. Animal Health and Welfare: To promote animal health and welfare through education, research, and outreach activities aimed at preventing diseases, improving animal husbandry practices, and enhancing the well-being of animals under human care.
  4. Public Health: To contribute to public health by addressing zoonotic diseases (those transmitted between animals and humans), promoting food safety, and conducting research on issues at the intersection of human and animal health.
  5. Outreach and Extension: To engage with the community, stakeholders, and industry partners through extension programs, outreach activities, and continuing education initiatives aimed at disseminating knowledge, providing technical assistance, and addressing the needs of animal owners, farmers, and other stakeholders.
  6. Collaboration and Partnerships: To foster collaboration and partnerships with other academic institutions, government agencies, industry organizations, and international partners to enhance the impact of education, research, and service efforts in veterinary medicine and animal sciences.
  7. Professional Development: To support the professional development of faculty, staff, and students through mentorship, training programs, and opportunities for continuing education and professional advancement.

 

Mission:

The objectives of a Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences typically include:

  1. Education and Training: To provide comprehensive education and training programs that equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed for careers in veterinary medicine, animal sciences, and related fields.
  2. Research and Innovation: To conduct cutting-edge research aimed at advancing scientific knowledge in areas such as animal health, disease prevention and control, animal genetics, nutrition, welfare, and sustainable animal production systems.
  3. Animal Health and Welfare: To promote the health, well-being, and humane treatment of animals through education, research, and outreach programs focused on disease prevention, management, and treatment, as well as on animal behavior and welfare assessment.
  4. Public Health and Food Safety: To contribute to public health and food safety by studying zoonotic diseases, conducting surveillance and monitoring of animal health, and developing strategies to prevent the transmission of diseases from animals to humans through the food chain.
  5. Conservation and Biodiversity: To contribute to the conservation of animal species and biodiversity through research, education, and conservation programs aimed at protecting endangered species, preserving natural habitats, and promoting sustainable wildlife management practices.
  6. Community Engagement and Outreach: To engage with local communities, stakeholders, and industry partners through extension services, outreach programs, and collaborative initiatives aimed at addressing the needs and challenges facing animal owners, farmers, and other stakeholders.
