The Institute of Education and Research is among the few teaching departments which were established at the very inception of the University.  Initially, it was formed as the ‘Department of Education’ in 1974, however after a couple of years, in 1976; it was given the status of Institute of Education and Research.  

To start with, the Institute of Education and Research introduced M.Ed. in the academic session 1975-76 followed by the B.Ed program which was started in the academic session 1976-77. Later on, MPhil and Ph.D. in Education were initiated in 2000 and B.Ed (honors) Elementary, a four-year Degree in education program was started in the session 2011-15.
