The Department of Physical Education was established in 1976. Before the establishment of the department, there was no institution in the entire country which could provide opportunities for obtaining higher qualifications in the subject of Health and Physical Education. It was the first tertiary institution in Pakistan to offer the Master of Health and Physical Education (HPE) degree program in 1976.
Previously, the teachers from KPK used to go to Lahore to get their Senior Diploma in Physical Education (SDPE) and Junior Diploma in Physical Education (JDPE). To eligible the students for M.Sc. (HPE) final year, (SDPE) program was then started in 1980-81. After that, the JDPE program was also started in 1982. Afterwards, this department has started M.Sc (SSPE) composite (two years) program in 2008. To develop outstanding scholars who make an impact in their chosen fields; ranging from academia to industry and government to community, this department has started M.Phil and Ph.D in Sports Sciences and Physical Education from 2013. With the growing demand of the field, a BS (4-Yesrs Sports Sciences and Physical Education) program was started in 2018.
The Department of Sports Sciences Physical Education is located in Main Campus, Gomal University and it is appositely situated to Hostel Number 06 (Tribal Hostel), which caters to all the training needs of the students and also hostel facility is available. The bloom faculty has several areas of strength in the Department including BS. M.Phil and P.hD. The faculty members are zealous and efficient Professionals. Through conceptual, perceptive professional teaching and guidance, they help students to develop meaningful and lasting connections with the other branches of Sports Sciences and Physical Education.
Being the pioneer institution in Pakistan, the Department of Sports Sciences and Physical Education, Gomal University has produced more 1,000 graduates of this programme. Additionally, the department has produced more 150 M.Phil and 17 P.hD scholars till date. We are taking our role as leaders in this field, managing sports in both public and private sectors.
